Limes
Native to the Indo-Malaysian region, the lime was unknown to Europeans before the Crusades. Arab trader carried limes to the Middle East. Crusaders returning from Palestine brought them back to Europe. Used by sailors to prevent scurvy, the lime was propagated in the New World by explorers and soon became a staple throughout Latin America.

Widely used by the food-service industry and as an ingredient in dozens of Latin recipes, The lime has become a very important produce item in Southern California.

Tavilla imports juicy, Persian Seedless limes from the gulf coast region of Central Mexico, notably Martinez de la Torre, and Veracruz.

Key Limes (Limones)
A small, particularly juicy lime with thin skin, limones figure prominently in the cuisine of our neighbors to the south. Used in salads, with seafood and in picado-style dishes, limones are also good for digestion and make great lemonade. Key Limes ripen to a yellow color and are delicious even when fully yellow.
